No Doubt Supports the ONE Campaign

Pop band No Doubt supports the ONE campaign, which was created so that individuals can combat global AIDS and extreme poverty. It is based on the belief that even one person can make a world of difference. Created by a diverse coalition of faith-based and anti-poverty organizations, it engages Americans to speak out, one by one, against global AIDS and poverty.

AIDS and poverty are not just problems--they are epidemics of unheard-of proportions. Worldwide there are 14,000 new HIV infections every day, with 95 percent occurring in developing countries. More than 42 million people are living with AIDS, and 74 percent of these live in sub-Saharan Africa. In the developing world, more than 1.2 billion people live below the poverty line, earning less than $1 per day.

It's easy to feel numb by the cold, hard statistics. You can't help but feel utterly helpless in the midst of such overwhelming suffering. You want to help, but you are convinced that just one person cannot accomplish something great and significant in this battle for lives.

But the good news is that you can do something great--far greater than you can ever imagine. By joining the ONE campaign, you can show your leaders that you want to do more to respond to the emergency of AIDS and extreme poverty.

ONE is a central part of the international effort to achieve the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals that tackle some of the world's most chronic problems. ONE is a staunch proponent of allocating an additional 1 percent of the U.S. budget toward providing basic needs like health, education, clean water and food to the poorest countries. Through material and financial support, an entire generation will be transformed and empowered to achieve a better future. 

If action is not taken now, history is scorned. Leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa and Vaclav Havel have proven that big changes start with small actions. Together as ONE, Americans can help make poverty history. ONE has already secured funds for those affected by AIDS and helped ensure the cancellation of debt for the poorest countries. With every victory, lives are being saved and futures are being rebuilt in Africa and around the world.

The ONE Campaign was founded by Bread for the World, CARE, DATA, International Medical Corps, International Rescue Committee, Mercy Corps, Oxfam America, Plan USA, Save the Children US, World Concern and World Vision, and works closely with the National Basketball Association, Rock the Vote and the Millennium Campaign. ONE participants include celebrities such as actors Antonio Banderas, George Clooney, Penelope Cruz, John Cusack, Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx, Salma Hayek, Liam Neeson, Brad Pitt, and Susan Sarandon; musicians Bob Geldof, Bono, Natalie Grant, Dave Matthews, No Doubt, Diddy, Michael W. Smith, Switchfoot and Eddie Vedder; comedian Ellen Degeneres; NBA All-Star and Africa advocate Dikembe Mutombo; Ugandan nurse and global AIDS activist Agnes Nyamayarwo; and high-profile representatives of national advocacy organizations such as Bread for the World, World Vision, Global Health Council, The Better Safer World Coalition, DATA and many others. The ONE Campaign is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
